Janet supports a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions and shape her own future. She knows that the challenges women face in their lives affect their health, families, and our collective economic security and competitiveness. As a co-founder of the Maine Women’s Lobby, she’s been breaking barriers and fighting for gender equity her entire career.
And she has a unique understanding of the challenges faced by Maine families. When she met and married the love of her life, her husband, Stan Kuklinski, a widower with five young daughters ages four to sixteen, she became a full-time mom to five daughters who she helped raise while working full-time herself. These daughters – and now her granddaughters – are why she’ll never back down.
With the Supreme Court poised to strike down Roe v. Wade, Janet is fighting to protect women’s access to abortion because she believes in a Maine that respects the rights of women. As Governor, she signed legislation requiring insurance to cover abortions and expanded access to reproductive health care through MaineCare, and she will never stop fighting to make sure women’s reproductive health decisions are between women and their doctors.
